Treehouse Builder Achieves Beautiful Cedar-Shake Color
Stained by our team with iron, the color and mottling on the cedar shake siding gracing this treehouse adds to its vintage effect.
Lead designer & builder, Adam Laufer, explains his process: “The trick to making a beautiful stain is to allow wood to continue its natural aging. So, we use natural oils and pigments that penetrate the wood, which protects it but also allows it to breathe and still showcase the variations that are pleasing to the eye in their randomness.”
Much of this treehouse has been created with reclaimed barn wood and beams, as well as foraged trees and branches from the lush forest around it. The iron-stained shakes reflect the bark and shadows of the structure’s towering, neighboring trees.
All of these elements help the treehouse to blend into its Appalachian property harmoniously.
