The vertical support of the lovingly handmade ladder is a maple that grew leaning up against one of the chestnut oaks that support the structure. Since the maple tree had to be cut away, the World Treehouses team honored this beautiful tree by meticulously debarking it and installing as the strong column supporting the ladder to the upstairs bedroom. The majority of our current project – the Shinrin-yoku treehouse – is crafted using time-tested timber frame building techniques. This is a new skill for the World Treehouses of Asheville NC team, and we (and our clients) love the texture and solidity of this ancient builders’ art. Showcasing the wood itself, its textures and colors, the feeling of the natural world that these timbers evoke pays homage to the inner beauty and sacrifice of the trees themselves.
Do the living chestnut oaks holding our “forest bathing” treehouse sense that a treehouse designed to honor their strong gifts to humanity – our love letter to the forest – is being nestled into their sturdy branches?
